Andrew Taylor, Co-founder and Partner at Aldwych Partners, has been featured in leading business publication, Business Insider, as well as on its newswire and regional editions, discussing Walmart’s decision to sell Asda to a British organisation.
In the article, Andrew suggests that the Asda sale could draw attention from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) because of the possibility that the transaction reduces competition in areas where both Asda and Euro Garages operate. He notes that “while the CMA is unlikely to block the deal, it may require some divestments”.
In the Yorkshire edition of Business Insider, Andrew comments: “The potential acquisition of Asda by a consortium that includes the owners of EuroGarages seems likely to interest the CMA. It will want assurance that any links between EG and Asda don’t result in increased petrol prices for consumers. A combined EG/Asda forecourt network would be the second largest in the UK.”
